Living The Lyrics
I love music. I grew up in a home where the record player was always on. I’d spend hours pouring through vinyl albums, reading the lyrics, singing along out loud.
When I was in elementary school, I created my own mini-albums. With pen and paper in hand, I would write songs and then list them on the back of my own “record”. I even wrote a special thanks section, because really, who doesn’t want to name names.
My love for music continued through my teen years. I was a regular on the “special music” schedule at our church. Remember those days? I spent hours creating tapes that had all my favorite songs. They had to be in the best order possible to provide optimal enjoyment while driving. There’s nothing like Pearl Jam blaring through the radio at 2am on Spring Break while driving through metro Atlanta.
Music moves. You can hear the lyrics of a song twenty years later and feel like it was just yesterday you heard it for the first time.
In my twenties, I married a musician. When I met Tim, he was in a band, traveling the country, writing lyrics. Perhaps this was what first caught my eye. When we realized we were looking at forever together, he told me he had a name picked out for his future daughter. I cringed. You never know what those artist-types will come up with.
I loved it.
Today we have a beautiful, first-born daughter named Lyric. She reminds me every day that life is a song. Her enthusiasm for life bursting forth in all she does.
Music has always been a part of my story. But, I believe it is part of an even bigger story, and that’s the part I want you to know about. Here at splintersong, I am all about living the lyrics of the cross.
There is a song that pours forth from those splintered hands. It is a song of hope, glory, and wonder. Each day we have the opportunity to live the lyrics that transform the lense through which we view life.
Lyrics that give purpose, joy, and life.
This is what I hope you find here. A place that will inspire you to dream big, live large, and think deep. The cross of Christ changes everything, and this is where I want to be: living it's lyrics.
I'm excited to offer a new section on the blog: "Living the Lyrics." Within the pages, you will find songs that have meant a lot to me over the years. Some new, some old. Lyrics that speak to the heart. Reminders that God is a Lover Who pursues us. Would love for you to check out Living the Lyrics. The first post is a favorite of mine by Crowder, "Praise The Lord". I'll be adding more over the next few weeks, so check back frequently.
The cross of Christ gives music to our lives, may we be found living it's lyrics.
