Hey you, I'm so glad you stopped by. I’m Chris, mama to three pixies and wife to one Norse-man. Welcome to my blog. I write about living the lyrics of the cross. Lyrics of life, love, faith, and the pursuit of beauty. I hope we become dear friends.

In All Your Ways

In All Your Ways

God’s guidance gives rest. His presence lifts the weight of the world off of our shoulders and onto His own. When we are in doubt, whenever we question the way, the path of rest is the path He has for us.

The key is to acknowledge Him.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:6

We are moving. Again. This will be our fifth move in five years. My youngest pixie is five. Zion will have lived in five different homes in her five years of life. She calls us “the moving family.” It is typical for her to ask at least once a month where our next home will be.

This move was not planned. One morning last week, Tim brought my cup of coffee to me while I was still in bed. He sat on the edge of the bed, looked at me and said, “We have to move.”

I just stared at him, confident he was going to laugh at any moment. Instead, silence. “I’m serious, we have to move.”

I responded incredulously, “We do not.”

“We do.”

I sat up straight in bed. “You’re kidding.”

“No, I’m not."

A few hours later Tim would tell me, “You handled that a lot better than I thought you would.”

And honestly, looking back, I did.

"It ought to take us shorter time as we go on to learn our lessons and to trust and not be afraid." ~Lilias Trotter

We’ve been down this road so many times before. And every single time His track record is faithfulness. Every single time He blows me away by His mercy and grace. Every single time He picks me back up when my flesh falters. Every single time He has kept count of my wanderings.

"Because I know You remain the same. Even in my wanderings." And so I pray: "Lord, I acknowledge that you are the same God who guided us before, and You will do it again. And You, O Lord, never cease to amaze me."

It is only when I am in tune with the Spirit that I can find this rest. The kind of rest that comes from acknowledging a great God. When I start to strive, seeking a path on my own, wanting to carve and cut the trail to my liking, that is when I enter unrest.

“The Lord replied, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’” Exodus 33:14

We may have been thrown a curve ball with this pending move, but we've got a God Who specializes in knocking it out of the park. My understanding can only take me so far. But if I lean into Him, and seek His face, the path starts to clear.

He promises that His Presence will be with us wherever we go. No matter how humble the path He has you on He will make it glorious. Even if the road is paved with fear, His Presence can provide rest. When we lean into and acknowledge Him, the insurmountable becomes scalable.

The Hebrew word for acknowledge here literally means to have Him always in view. It contains the idea of knowing He is always present. One commentator describes it like this, "To acknowledge God is, therefore, to recognize, in all our dealings and undertakings, God's overruling providence, which 'shapes our ends, rough hew them as we will.' It is not a mere theoretical acknowledgment, but one that engages the whole energies of the soul."  To acknowledge is to reflect on the One Whose Presence continually goes before us.

Acknowledge Him...Look to your history with the Lord. Search out the ways you have seen Him prove His faithfulness in the past and thank Him for it.

Acknowledge Him...Open His word, seeking His face for wisdom. Where you find rest, there He is.

Acknowledge Him…Lay your fears at His feet and trust in Him with all of your being. Look for the mystery of His ways and rejoice in the unknown.

Acknowledge Him in all your ways and watch the path ahead be made straight.
